Keep Portland Weird! We went to Portland, Oregon for the Northwest Regional Lavender Conference II on October 24 – 26. The landscape and scenery in the Portland area is spectacular. We took an extra day to see the natural sites before the conference and were able to see 3 mammoth water falls within several miles of each other and saw a small rock slide. We also went to the International Rose Test Garden, VooDoo Doughnuts, and Powell Books. (click for slide show)
There were over 220 attendees at the conference and we got to brush up on some subjects and learn new things. The on big takeaway for us, that no one had said in the past 4 years is that: if you have grass between the rows of lavender, as the plants get close to harvest time, they are so big that you can’t mow between the rows! This causes us to completely rehash having grass between our rows. I also represented USLGA with other members of the board.
